Yesterday was fabulous!!! Jeremy and I ventured out into surburbia, went to Brooksfield Zoo, Portillo's, and a huge Walmart full of Spanish-speaking families and bulky objects that come shrink-wrapped in sets of 3!
After a summer of angsting over normal household objects that are simply unattainable in an urban setting, I finally appreciate that the burbs are actually good for something other than tormenting me with boredom throughout my formative years. Consequently, now we have a functional dishrack, handsoap, tissues, a pasta utensil, and an electric deep fryer so we don't have to continually clean pans coated with grease and filth!
We also went to the Chinese American Musuem on 23rd St. this weekend. It only opened in May, but it should have two more floors eventually. Sushu have you heard of it? There were also signs up for something called "Paper Sons" like, 員紙仔, they had this "Coaching Scroll" up, with questions like 'Did you wear shoes at home?' and model answers like 'When father was home, yes, my brother and I always wore shoes' or 'I don't remember exactly when, but I always more shoes at home.' that were supposed to improve their chances of getting into the US under the strict immigration laws....but I don't really understand what these questions were screening for, none of them really made sense... then again, niether did lots of things at the end of the 1800s...("Ankles?! Scandolous!" bussles??)
Looked at bulletin boards today...fruitless, except for a study that wants 6 tablespoons of my blood for $20, and a chance at finding a babysitting job. We shall see.
Called my parents yesterday... apparently they haven't heard a peep from Anna at German camp and were wondering if I had...we'll see if she responds to my letter. Rae is so-so, not eating much, watches Westerns with a grandson a lot. Dad says she has a least a few weeks, maybe a few months... the usual ambiguous projection for cancer patients...
Tomorrow is dinner at Ppppeeennnaaaannngggg, with Jono's sis and Daiiki (sp?), fresh off the boat from Japan. And soon Jeremy will be 21! I guess I should think of some kind of hot date to take him out on, ne? ^.~
