catastrophy: sparkly pink d20 necklace (caffeine)
On Saturday it was broiling and the AC didn't work, but Jeremy and I basked in the glory of Kristen and Kevin's newly remodeled and oh-so-freakin-awesome kitchen, then we went for dinner at the Ratzkellar, where Jeremy's digestion was optimized by a beer called "Spaten Optimator," Kevin enjoyed his favorite beer, a kind of bottle conditioned beer whose name I forgot (might have been this one: Schoefferhoffer Hefeweizen Dunkel), and Kristen had a similar one, and I....
DISCOVERED SOMETHING THAT YOU COULD TECHNICALLY CALL A "BEER" THAT I ACTUALLY LIKED!
*gasp*

Ok... maybe that was a little too much drama, but it was so incredibly cool! Besides anything that's lambic automatically has a +5 coolness factor.
What is this marvelous non-beer-tasting drink that's still made with barley and hops... but also with wheat and.... raspberries?? And "spontaneously fermented"? Say what?
Say "Lindemans Framboise Lambic" It's like the love child of Sparkling Grape Juice and a Beer that was Raised by Wines. Thank you for introducing me to this "nominally" beer marvel, Kristen.

Other than going for drinks for the first time with my biggest sister, we came back to her house and played Euchre on their roof-porch and ate cherries until Kristen was too sleepy to follow the hands and I fervently denied taking 3 different tricks with aces I had forgotten that I had played/were mine...
I am envious of Kristen's whole kitchen, porch, and shower/bathtub.... and her dishwasher. and her double ovens with their digital controls and their 'proofing' and 'sabbath' settings. (K&G you slumlords!!! I can't even get kitchen wiring that doesn't spontaneously explode for no discernible reason!!)

Briefly saw my parents and Anna Sunday for dinner at Nina's. Got my eyes examined and arranged an elaborate and convoluted scheme to have Nina pick up my new trial lenses, bring them to me in Muskegon, and then come to visit her in August so I can do my follow-up appointment to make sure the new contacts are working right. Damn, eye doctoring is inconvenient. There's a Walmart out by the airport, but we never go there... but I forgot how much scheduling trouble it is for new contacts... At least I can order glasses on-line and be done with that.

Sean is indeed getting the Terrible Twos. But he's still my most adorable nephew. We played in the mini-pool on the deck for an hour or more, Sean was obsessed with filling things up with the hose and spraying things and pushing them around with the water. Jeremy even joined us and Sean immediately assaulted him with the hose. (Did I mention that the water from said hose comes from the basement, and thus only a smidgen warmer than Lake Michigan? Luckily Sean only thought my calves needed to be hosed down.) Sean now says new cute things like "Oh no!" and "Oh, man!," loves to push strollers around, climb on everything (including me, even if it means climbing up my lap, pushing me over, flopping on my chest, and then going straight over my face.... or getting his toy car's wheels stuck in my hair >.<;) He still loves movies, but now he watches them on Nina's bed while holding Steve's "Stone Cold" Steve Austin wrestling figure. (Which he will find and retrieve if you ask him "Sean, where's Stone Cold? Go get Stone Cold!")
And, of course, their new 2 month old kitten, Kitty, is at the disarmingly precious age where she chases her tail (Tigger's tail, or Jerry's tail) or anything that wiggles enticingly (or even hands or toes that aren't moving at all), and is still cute even when she's clawing or biting you because she's too little to hurt anyone with her tiny tiny teeth and feet, especially because she purrs while she (futilely) attacks you.

Also, I may be 21, but I'm still getting tons of hand-me-downs with Nina.
And, Kristen and I are so alike.... that we even own identical underwear (size, cut, pattern---Muppets), although we didn't know it. Crazy!

Soon: Visit Becca! See that PotC movie with what appears to be Pirate Cthulu.
