My most recent batch of doodles, in my swanky new sketchbook.
In the style of lolcats, I bring you ( lolraffe )
( Midori-chan )
On the plane back to Chicago I created ( Gregory ) I feel like he would make a good D&D character, but I don't know what version he'd do well for, or what type of creature his harpy companion would be.
Today was productive not so much for my bike--I spent the better part of an hour trying to bend a brakepad to a better angle with no luck...and I'm no good at adjusting the angle with the washers---but doting on my nieces and nephews. I bought an outfit for each of them at this children's clothing store on Pacific that was having a big sale. I also got a "Sleepy Time Routine" set with a blanket, plush tiger, and bedtime tips (I'll have to find a nightlight to go with it) for Sean, because whenever I visit Nina has trouble getting Sean to go to bed, and with the new baby coming in the next month, she'll have even less energy at the end of the day to fight with him about bedtime. Children's clothing is surprisingly expensive, but I have 3 kids to buy presents for, and if it's cute and on sale, I might as well. Besides, it's my duty to provide each of my nieces and nephews with some kind of crazy hosiery. (Sean got animal-print socks, his new sister will be getting flower-striped cotton tights.)
I finally have enough information about the online application process to start applying hardcore to job postings, I just wish I had more confidence in my CL. I'm already reminding myself that most applications probably won't yield results, but I'm hoping at least I score a few interviews. I've been trying to be low key about finding a job, because I remember how frustrating it was looking for just a summer job in Chicago, but I think Becca's right about work being a likely place to make friends in SC...and my student loan payments are only going to get bigger in 6 months.
I miss my roommates, anime club, and all the May kids. With Sushu in China, it's just me and an endless parade of TV shows on the internet. I'm trying to make a point of calling all my immediate family, and Chicago kids to make plans for visits or hear about their latest exploits.
I keep telling myself "only two more weeks, then I can unpack stuff." "Only two more weeks, and I can buy another chair so we have 2 chairs." "Only two more weeks and I'll be out of limboland." In the meantime, I am experimenting with frozen Trader Joe's foods and espresso-based drinks. TJ's frozen stuff is hit and miss, hopefully in a month or so I'll have weeded the awesome (taquitos, diner-style mac'n'cheese, pizza margherita, garlic fries) from the "meh." The snooty espresso drinks are an excuse to go undercover in all those mysteriously popular coffee shops, where people apparently go all the time to drink coffee. I myself don't care much for coffee, but espresso intrigues me. So, I've taken to popping into random places and ordering a drink off the menu like I understand the Italian-ized codenames, to see if I like them and if I like the atmosphere in any of the places.
Because I need badly someplace to go and do things outside of the house.
And if I can't find salary work, it couldn't hurt to scope out a good place to become a barista either, I suppose.
PS: The ocean is still suspicious and unnerving. Sometimes big box stores are a necessary evil. Also, 昆布茶 is not kombucha--that's 紅茶キノコ.
PPS: Damn my late-to-bed-late-to-rise sleep schedule!
