catastrophy: sparkly pink d20 necklace (caffeine)
Drove to Santa Cruz today.
Had a nice lunch with Jeremy, had some of my favoritist Lulu Carpenter's coffee, grabbed a few things from FSH, and got a book from the library.

Been working on an evil, evil application for a job. Now that I have a comfy chair in the living room, I've got two places to work, which should help with muscle strain and focus.

Arranged to meet up with Amanda next week for some foods and a movie at her place.

Lately I've been working on writing out the story from the Polaris campaign Jono previously posted an excerpt from. It's challenging to record a story authored by 4 people. I can take good notes, but ultimately, whatever I write is still from my perspective. What I think was important in each PC's scene may not reflect their own evaluation. Moreover, since each scene is the result of a collaborative process between the Heart and the Mistaken, the scene necessarily goes through several negotiations and revisions. Each PC's scene may also have a larger impact on the story as a whole. Therefore, what I recall about each scene depends greatly on how involved I was in the creation of that scene and the time elapsed since the scene was acted out and when I wrote the notes for it.
The joint creation of the story was an event witnessed by each participant and thus each participant experiences the story differently. If you asked each participant/author to recount the story, you would get four different versions.
None of the versions could be considered inaccurate, per say, since each recounting is true to the participant's experience, but since the story was crafted by multiple authors, neither could any of the four versions accurately reflect the whole.
It's a paradox which baffles and intrigues me.
The relationship between role playing and narrative is complicated!
The story I've been writing down is one representation of the narrative.
An audio or video recording of the actual sessions would be another representation.
The narrative of Polaris is both explicit story creation and a role paying experience, so it's especially hard to wrap my head around. @_@
